There’s a question I get asked constantly as a psychic medium: “When did you know you had psychic abilities?”
The truth is, I didn’t wake up one day gifted. I was forged.
A Childhood Wired for Survival
As a child, I was wired for hypervigilance. I scanned every environment, always seeking the change in weather before it came. My nervous system wasn’t wired for safety, it was wired for survival.
I’d always been a highly sensitive person (HSP), long before that term entered the mainstream. More attuned to plants and animals than to humans. More at home in the natural world than anywhere else.
My best friends as a child weren’t other kids, they were my horse and my dog. We shared something words can’t fully hold: a wordless, telepathic connection that taught me trust and communication long before I understood what either really meant. Animals don’t lie. They don’t perform. With them, I learned to listen with more than my ears, a skill that would define the rest of my life.
My First Tarot Deck: A Gateway to Another World
At 15, I received my first tarot deck. I felt its magic immediately. It offered me a gateway to another world, a language I somehow already knew how to read.
By 16, I was having intense mediumistic experiences. But they terrified me. I had no guide. I was wide open, porous, even. It wasn’t all angels and white light. It was actually terrifying. So I shut myself down to the other side.
Still, I’d do psychic readings at parties, and they were always the favourite of the night. I had the abilities, but no idea how to control them.
Learning Energetic Boundaries as an Evidential Medium
Thankfully, I was gifted some exceptional teachers along the way, people who helped me move past the fear and see it all through another lens. This is where my training as an evidential medium truly began.
I developed boundaries. Energetic hygiene. An on switch and an off switch.
Here’s the silver lining most people never talk about: I’ve trained that same nervous system for regulation now. The system that once scanned for danger has become the very instrument that receives and perceives. What made me hypervigilant as a child became the gift that makes me a medium as an adult.
The Moment Everything Changed: Clairaudience in Byron Bay
After the passing of a dear sister, after a long and difficult dying process, I was still deep in grief.
One day, driving up the hill in Byron Bay, I heard her speak to me. Clear as day. Speaking to me as I drove. My hairs stood on end. I felt her presence.
I’d never had clairaudience before that moment.
She encouraged me further along the path, and it became clear: I was being invited to finally step into my power as a psychic medium.
Why I Believe We’re All Psychic
The spirit world is now a place I consider it an honour to inhabit. I’m not “on” 24/7, I have agreements with the spirit world that make this work sustainable. Sometimes I take breaks. I’m human, after all.
I believe we all have access to this. I believe we are all psychic. I believe it’s colonisation and capitalism that convinced most of us to forget these innate abilities.
I love nothing more than connecting people back to their own power, their deep knowing, their clairsenses.
Workshops Are Calling Again
It’s been a while since I’ve run workshops, I’ve been deep in important international projects. But I’m feeling a stirring. It may be time again soon.
That’s the strange grace of this path, the very system built to keep me safe became the system that lets me perceive what most have forgotten how to hear.
